Assalamu alaikum,

CPSA will be closed for two days starting tomorrow (Tuesday, February 7th through Wednesday, February 8th) due to a particularly virulent strain of the flu that has caused quite a few students and teachers to call in sick.

While the school is closed, classrooms and other areas will be disinfected. No one is allowed into the building during these two days for health reasons.

All school activities will be canceled with the exception of:

  • High School Girls Basketball practice will be at Ackerman tomorrow from 5-6:30 and transportation will be provided by parents.
  • The high school boys varsity team will leave from CPSA at 5:30 PM tomorrow for their game at Lycee.
  • The girls high school basketball team will leave CPSA on Wednesday at 4:30 PM for their regional game.

School will reopen on Thursday, February 9th, insha’Allah.

Get well soon, everyone!

This past Saturday, the Mock Trial team competed at the Lake County Courthouse Mock Trial Tournament. CPSA competed against Evanston High School as Defense (win) and Libertyville High School as prosecution (unknown). Students were graded by practicing attorneys, competed in actual court rooms and were judged by sitting judges in Lake County.   Masha Allah the judges were so inspiring in their opening remarks and emphasized how this activity help students in so many ways academically even if they are not interested in law.

Three of our students also took special awards.  Jamiel Abed (10th) and Ammara Ashraf (11th) were given Outstanding Witness awards and Afreen Mohiuddin (12th) was given an Outstanding Attorney award.

The judges overall were very proud of our school and their abilities and even spoke to me about our students applying for internships at the courthouse!  In sha Allah I will be following up with them this week.

Next week Mock Trial will end at the State Tournament.  It will take place at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana March 10-12th.

On March 11th, CPSA families gathered at Feed My Starving Children, donating their time and effort to help eradicate world hunger among children.  With the help of others at the session, enough boxes were packed to feed 89 children for one year.  This was a wonderful experience, and allowed our children to see what others around the world do not have.  Insha’Allah, this will become something we can do again!
